THE CHARITIES WE HAVE CHOSEN TO WORK WITH ARE ALL ORGANISATIONS THAT WORK TIRELESSLY TO SUPPORT AND PROTECT VULNERABLE WOMEN AND CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD. YOU CAN READ MORE ABOUT THEM BELOW.
PROTECT AUSTRALIAN CHILDREN
Child Wise delivers ‘Personal Safety’ training to teachers, to help them educate children about personal safety, body autonomy, safe and unsafe touch and encourage them to express their feelings, particularly if they feel unsafe. Children with increased awareness of body ownership are more assertive in expressing their feelings are less vulnerable to abuse.
Every $70 raised educates a teacher and provides a manual with activities, templates and resources to teach children personal safety. For every teacher Child Wise trains, 22 students will benefit and be less vulnerable to abuse.
PREVENT WOMEN DYING
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed in their lifetime, and 8 Australian women lose their life every day.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia’s leading national body funding game-changing breast cancer research to create a better tomorrow for all those impacted.
Our mission is simple: stop deaths from breast cancer. How? By identifying, funding and championing world-class research - that helps us detect tumours earlier, improve treatment outcomes, and ultimately save lives. We receive no government funding. With your support, we can move closer to our goal: zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
In the highlands of PNG, up to 100% women experience violence regularly. Many are beaten on a daily basis. Sexual harassment is also extremely common in markets, where women's ability to do business is crucial for the strength of their communities. When women are safe from violence, entire communities and economies flourish.
UN Women is:
- Supporting local services to meet the needs of women.
- Training male community leaders to understand and communicate that violence against women is a crime.
- Providing training so women can earn an income and support their families.
