Celebrating Jamie-Lee's First Mother's Day

MLM LABEL MOTHERS DAY JAMIE-LEE

Firstly, congratulations on your firstborn and happy Mother's Day! It must be very exciting being a first time mum. What has been your favourite part of being a mum so far?

It's been a bit of a whirlwind; I still can't believe that nine weeks have passed since he was born! It's hard to pick just one thing, but if I had to narrow it now, it'd be the sweet smiles and giggles we get from our boy, and the constant snuggles.

What does motherhood mean to you?

I recently read a quote by author Elizabeth Stone, which sums up starting a family so perfectly:

“Making the decision to have a child is momentous.  It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”

Having a baby is such a huge blessing, and has meant so much more than I ever could have imagined. It's only been a couple of months, but my heart is so full, and there's something magical about nurturing your baby, and watching them develop and grow into their personalities.

How are you celebrating your first Mother's Day?

We haven't made any plans, but I think we'll be bunkering down at home - hopefully starting the day with a strong coffee and breakfast in bed!

Your blog has a strong focus on sustainable wardrobe choices, how did you adapt this personal style ethos when choosing pieces to wear throughout pregnancy?

This was really tricky, as I wanted to ensure that anything I added to my wardrobe would be practical, and not just something I wore for a "season". Plus, as your body changes so rapidly, it can be somewhat of a comfort to be able to wear items that still feel inherently *you*. I first looked to my own wardrobe, and identified what items would work for most, if not all of my pregnancy. I wear a lot of relaxed items, which definitely helped! Anything else I added was either quite voluminous through the body, or quite stretchy (smocking was a big winner for me). That meant I could still shop from brands I loved, and all those items still fit me now. One of my go-tos, particularly when it was hot, was the MLM Label Cava Mini Dress. This is fully smocked through the body, with a sweet ruffle at the hemline - perfect for a Sydney summer's day. I also have the longer version which I wore when I needed to dress up a little. The best part is that I can continue to wear those pieces now!

One piece of style advice your mum gave you?

Probably the biggest style tip I got from my mum was to build my wardrobe around block colours, and also to have a go-to colour palette that works well with your complexion. This means you have a good foundation to work off, and it makes it easy to incorporate a few fun printed pieces too.

"Slip skirts are one of those pieces I can’t seem to get enough of right now"
